Geekologie

This week's fabulous blog is GEEKOLOGIE. Ironically enough, this misspelled blog is aimed toward geeks of all corners of the web. The blog is the self proclaimed "Geek blog dedicated to the scientific study of gadgets, gizmos, and AWESOME." Each post is paired with hilarious commentary, authored only by one anonymous writer. Though this blog's target audience is gizmo obsessed fan boys, theres something for everyone. Do you go ga-ga for gadgets? Which entry tickles your fancy?

  1. I don't really understand why this blog is called geekologie, unless the writer is defining geeks as immature little boys who are entertained purely by making fun of everything around them. Part of the writer's tag line is that the blog is dedicated to "the scientific study" of gadgets and gizmos. Yet again, this doesn't really make sense to me due to the fact that there is very limited
"scientific study" going on in the blog, unless this tag line is just another part of the writer's humor. I do think some of the posts are rather funny yet some of the writer's commentary throughout the blog is quite offensive. I think it's interesting how I have assumed that the writer of this blog is a guy, when in fact we really don't know whether the writer is male or female.

  2. That blog is great! SOME of the writing is funny and the articles are all about interesting geek stuff. However some of the writing is kind of crude, which seems jsut unnecessary.
If you keep turning the page there are videos of little autonomous helicopters building stuff and juggling balls ON THEIR OWN! However Holly is right, they don't study the science so much as get really excited and make fun of stuff. Still, some of it is entertaining

  3. @ Holly:

I think it's called geekologie because of the main subject of the majority of the posts: technology, comic books, history, science, video-games, role-playing, etc.

A geek is defined on Wikipedia as:
"A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest. This definition is very broad but because many of these interests have mainstream endorsement and acceptance, the inclusion of some genres as "geeky" is heavily debated."

If you hit the jumps on the entries, you can see the original link to what the post is referring to, and it usually goes more into depth in analysis and the "research" you might be looking for. As far as the author's scientific studies go- (s)he does normally explain what is going on in the post, just to the extent that will keep the average reader hooked, and someone who is more interested to keep reading.

As far as crude and offensive goes- yeah, it is pretty raunchy stuff. But for some people, raunchy humor is their bag. :D

  4. I also think that the author of this blog is male, mostly because the humor is similar to the majority of the male college students that we are around every day. No offense guys, but girls wouldn't USUALLY refer to HJ's in articles talking about a newly discovered dinosaur or an indestructible robotic arm.
Overall, I think this blog is geared towards the guys in the high teens and low twenties. However, I still got quite a few laughs from the articles. One of my favorite articles is about the "Self-Destruction Rings" because it has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen. A ring with a bullet in it? Really people??

  5. The audience is not only blatant but the evidence is in the comments. Each entry consists of a real news article with a brief overview, but not for too long the witty sarcasm spills all over the page. I could only expect an audience that isn't really here for the intellectual stimulation, but instead a few quick laughs. The author wrote, “God, do I know you guys or what? I do, and I'm even more embarrassed than your parents,” which could imply the audience is not only male, but also young.
The blog has an audience, and it delivers what they want. The vulgar and immature language is nothing but parallel and expected for the intended audience. Unlike the previous blogs, the comments are nothing close to a logical argument. Many posts are about being the “first” to comment, while others are full of emoticons and ranting online jargon.

  6. I laughed a bit while reading this blog solely based on the humor in the authors writing. It seemed ironic and whatnot even though he tried too hard a lot of the time. The content itself is pretty funny. I was never the technology type, but some of it appeals to me.

Even though many blogs have only one author, I want to know why "he" (I think he is a a he - like Noelle) wants to remain a mystery. For me, it takes away a lot of his credibility. Since we don't know anything about him, but what we can draw through his tone and opinion, i don't feel inclined to keep reading.

  7. The blog definitely has something for mostly everyone concerning interest level but I agree that the majority of posts target young males and specifically those referred as "geeks". The author provides numerous videos, pictures and articles which all contain humor and a touch of immaturity. I hope no one expects to engage in important or serious topics when visiting this blog.

  8. The stories in this blog are all very funny and strange. Most of them are beyond people's imagination. Some of them are wacky. I think this is the reason that the name of this blog is called "geekologie". At first I do not know the meaning of the word, but I think it is something about "geek". Then I read the content,I think I am right.

  9. I thought that this was a very interesting blog. It brought up a lot of different, but weird, stuff. I like the layout of the blog; I think it is an interesting concept that the writer centers the topics on things he thinks "geeks" will enjoy. I did find that quite a bit of what he said in the blog was very subjective. I know that is what a blog is, but the writer left nothing out when he was talking about the articles. He wrote everything that was on his mind. I found most of the site to be quite funny, but for the "scientific purposes" of the blog I found it nice to post something about the Challenger. This blog seemed to have a lot for everyone whether you are a proclaimed "geek" or not. I really liked the blog about the missing link gorilla; I thought it was very entertaining. I also found it interesting that one writer posted all of this stuff, because there sure was a lot to look at. Overall I thought it was an interesting blog to look at.

  10. When I went on this blog I thought it was actually going to talk about serious gadgets. First post I read completely threw off my instincts. My impression of this blog is that it is kind of like youtube. This blog is more to entertain than to inform. Also the comments I felt like were youtube. Most of them are immature and there is not really any conversation.

  11. Most of the articles in this blog tend to be humorous rather than actually talk about any serious issues. This blog seems to be the kind of blog that one would read merely for entertainment purposes.
Most of the comments are cynical and childish. Most of the conversations in the comments section are mainly users making fun of one another, which makes reading this blog boring after a while.

  12. Honestly, I found many articles on this blog intersting but not sophisticated at all sometimes. It is true that many of the articles target young males age in between their high teens and low 20's since these posts deals with comic books, Role playing games, and sometimes science. I see how this blog is called geekologie because when I image a "geek" those things are what i usually think what a person who is geek is interested in. Indeed, this blog does not go any further after that which restricts itself from being a well-reasoned, and sohpisticated reading.

  13. For me, this blog was very interesting to see. All the posts are very boyish humors and random stuffs. For boys, this blog might be great and fun to read. Maybe when girls read this blog they might not feel enjoyable. This blog is good to read over when you need some entertains with serious thinking. One article” Do want” was interesting to read because the personal submarine boat is the unique and interesting to know.

  14. This blog seems to have little to do with gizmos and is more focused on writing about funny stuff happening aruond the world. It's easy to tell from looking at a few of the entries that this author is not afraid to hold back on what he/she says. My favorite entry was the one about how some guy was shot in the mouth, but his grills deflected the bullet, leaving him virtually unharmed.

  15. In the first view, I thought it was about just ordinary stuffs collected in the daily life, however this is a fresh new concepts, it is called Geekologie, in my opinion, it was written by a great sense of Geek' mind storm, everything seemed to be unbelievable to me. My favorite one was a boy holding some folks on his chest, it looked like unreal but I had to believe by the description, the blog is amazing.

  16. I like it, it is nice. it is nice organized and information is mulripe. This bolg is made for entertainment. ALthough some of them are little bit Childish but it is still funny, for instance the gay was shot buy grills stoped the bullet. I liket this one the most, it is a interesting bolg and I like it.

  17. Man, is as if you didn't get it. It spills sarcasm over the vulgarity and absurdity that prevails in everyday life.

And Geekologie Writer is a truly gifted person for expressing hilarious comments (the core of the blog, not the gadgets, themes, whatever) and writing in a slick manner
